Our Sixth Form Offer

From our opening in September 2026, Houlton Sixth Form will provide a supportive and inspiring environment where every student is known, valued, and guided to succeed academically, personally, and socially.

Our dedicated pastoral team will ensure that care, support and aspiration are embedded in every aspect of Sixth Form life.

Our Pastoral Offer

  • Experienced pastoral leaders and tutors will support each student’s growth, wellbeing, and academic journey.
  • Regular tutoring sessions will help students set targets, reflect on progress, and plan for university or apprenticeship pathways.
  • A personalised development curriculum (VESPA) in form time will teach vision, effort, systems, practices, and attitude, supporting students develop the habits of high performers.
  • Students will have access to wellbeing and mental health support, ensuring they feel safe, resilient, and ready to learn.
  • Achievements, both academic and personal, will be celebrated to recognise ambition and progress.

Our Careers Offer

  • Our students will receive tailored support and guidance for applications to top universities, including Oxbridge, and Russell Group institutions alongside support in pursuing competitive apprenticeships.
  • Our students will develop key employability skills through workshops, interview coaching, and mock employer interviews.
  • Students will take part in a Work Experience Week, with support to secure placements with leading local businesses and institutions.
  • They will have access to our speaker programme, featuring keynotes speakers from all sectors. They will benefit from access to alumni networks, guest apprenticeship speakers and university ambassadors, expanding their perspectives and aspirations.

Our Enrichment Offer

  • Our students will develop their character and confidence through peer mentoring and buddy systems, fostering responsibility and a strong sense of belonging and community.
  • Our students will be encouraged to play a leadership role in school with our strong student leadership programme,  acting as role models for our younger students.
  • They will engage in volunteering initiatives via our Pay it Forward programme, Reading Buddies initiative, Duke of Edinburgh award and wider community projects, promoting social responsibilities and civic contribution.  They will contribute to the life of the school for example in supporting our new Houlton Primary phase. Our students will be encouraged to take on key roles around the site, developing practical responsibility while acting as ambassadors of the school to our secondary pupils.
  • Our enrichment offer will give our students access to Post-16 specific clubs and societies, where they will be encouraged to explore and develop their skills and passions, leading to a lifetime love of learning.
