Reading at Houlton

Reading is very important at Houlton School, students are encouraged to read actively and regularly to help them to expand their cultural capital, vocabulary and understanding of the world around them. Reading is also encouraged as an escape from everyday life, a joyful use of time and imagination and a way to relax and unwind. Reading for pleasure is just as important as reading for learning. A few suggestions  are listed by year group if you or your child are struggling with what to read next. 

...pupils take pride in their work and are eager to earn ‘college points’. Pupils develop as young adults, for instance by taking on a role in the school council or completing their Duke of Edinburgh award.
